| How do you capture the essence of Africa without travelling there yourself?
Africa’s amazingly varied wildlife would make dozens of visits worthwhile – what other place on Earth offers you the experience of falling asleep to the sound of lions roaring, or allows you the privilege of watching a million flamingos take flight from the glistening waters of a remote lake?
Parts of Africa possess spectacular scenery from the pyramids of Giza to the raw majestic beauty of Victoria Falls. However the real beauty of Africa is the people. Their friendliness and exuberance infects so many travellers that they never stop coming back! You can barter with Arabic merchants in the narrow streets of a Cairo Souk, dance along to reggae at a West African market, or chat with fishermen on an Indian Ocean beach. You will love the honesty, warm-heartedness and vitality of the African people. You can also help the people of Africa while you are there through many voluntary organizations or just give to a charity based in one of the African nations you visit. Word Vision
World Vision was founded in the USA by Bob Pierce during the 1950s. It all began after a life changing trip to China and Korea in 1947. A missionary, he saw that words alone were not necessarily good news to those without food, clothing, shelter or medicine.
Bob’s concern for children was strengthened by his experiences in Korea during the Korean war (1950-54). Orphanages were set up in South Korea to look after children who were abandoned or orphaned.
When he returned to the US, Bob started to raise money to help other families and orphans in Asia. The response was so great that he could not administer it alone, so in September 1950, World Vision was established with Bob Pierce as its president.
In the 1960s World Vision expanded its operations to meet the needs of refugees in Indochina and of people recovering from disasters in Bangladesh and in several African countries. Where long-term assistance was needed, children began to be sponsored by Americans, Australians and others. World Vision Australia began in 1966.
In the 1970s World Vision’s focus broadened from assisting the individual child to include community development. Since the 1980s, the “welfare” approach has gradually changed to a more collaborative relationship. Poor, marginalised people and communities work with World Vision to improve their lives and take control of their futures.

Burundi Youth for Christ
Youth for Christ International started in the 1940’s as a response to the needs of young people. Starting in the US, it has now become a worldwide organization transforming the lives of young people. It’s first full-time worker was Billy Graham. Currently, YFC works in almost 80 countries. Youth For Christ, Burundi, was pioneered in 1998, under the leadership of Freddy Tuyizere, after he was inspired by the YFC Africa vision of “Generation 21″. This vision sees the hope for Africa in training the youth to be leaders of integrity. Freddy continues to lead the organization, concentrating much of his time in the development of the Center and orphanage at Gitega while Euphrate Ndayizigiye manages the office which is situated in the captital city, Bujumbura. Burundi YFC was officially chartered at the international conference in Brazil, in 2003.
Burundi Youth For Christ operates within the continent wide vision, called ‘Generation 21′, which is a call to leadership across Africa to be God’s catalyst in faithfully developing a pan-African generation of young people who will be characterised by:
* Prowess in spiritual warfare
* Boldness in evangelism
* Passion in social involvement
* Godliness in leadership
